ABOUT
MEET J NYCOLE
J Nycole is an actor, producer, and storyteller whose curiosity about real lives, particularly those too easily overlooked, shapes both the roles she inhabits and the stories she chooses to create.
She appears in Peter Farrelly’s I Play Rocky, opening in theatres November 2026, as Diana Lewis, the trailblazing journalist who appeared as herself in the original Rocky. A conversation with Farrelly and writer Peter Gamble about honoring Lewis by name became a small but meaningful part of the experience: the trailblazing journalist now appears by name on the film’s official cast list.
While continuing to perform in The Book of Mormon on Broadway, she has two more films on the horizon: Our Father and The Sight Unseen, both featuring her as characters inspired by real people. She is also developing three projects of her own. The first to shoot, The Price of Being Looked At, is a one-woman film inspired by iconic Black women in entertainment.
That curiosity began long before J Nycole understood it as part of her purpose. At 12, she interviewed her uncle about being Black and surviving the Great Depression. It wasn’t for a school assignment. She simply wanted to record his experience and share his story.
J Nycole earned a BroadwayWorld Award for Best Supporting Actress for Smokey Joe’s Cafe and toured nationally in West Side Story. Her television credits include Black Rabbit and That Damn Michael Che. She also wrote, produced, and starred in the award-winning digital comedy series Working Out the Kinks.
As J Nycole expands her work as a writer and producer, she is following that lifelong curiosity both in front of and behind the camera, bringing real lives into view while creating stories from perspectives all her own.
